Explore experiencesYes. Chichén Itzá is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico and one of the most visited places on the Yucatán Peninsula. Its main pyramid, El Castillo or the Temple of Kukulkán, is the most famous landmark, but the great ball court, temples, columns and the history of the Maya civilization make the visit especially impressive.
Chichén Itzá was chosen for its historical, architectural and cultural importance. The ancient Maya city reflects advanced knowledge of astronomy, mathematics and urban planning. The Kukulkán pyramid, connected to solar cycles, is one of the most impressive examples of Maya architecture in Mexico.
No. Climbing the Kukulkán pyramid is no longer allowed in order to protect the archaeological site and preserve this important heritage. You can still admire it from close up, take photos and learn during the guided visit about its meaning within Maya culture, its connection to the calendar and its unique architectural details.
Chichén Itzá can be visited all year round. The months from November to April are usually more pleasant because of the milder temperatures, although they are also part of the high season. During hotter months, light clothing, sun protection and enough water are especially important. That is why the tour starts early in the morning.
We recommend bringing light clothing, comfortable shoes, a hat or cap, sunglasses, biodegradable sunscreen, swimwear, a towel and some cash for personal expenses. Since the excursion combines an archaeological site, Valladolid and a cenote, it is best to be prepared for both walking and swimming.
Valladolid and the cenote complete the Chichén Itzá experience beautifully. Together, they show different sides of Yucatán: Maya history, colonial architecture and the natural beauty of the region. Valladolid adds color and local atmosphere, while the cenote offers a refreshing experience after visiting the archaeological site.
